For product and data teams

Live data your product and your team can act on

Building a real-time data pipeline means capturing events as they happen, checking each one against an agreed contract and processing it as it arrives, so features, alerts and operations work from current data. We start by asking which decision needs fresh data, because many do not.

01 Outcomes

What changes for you

  • Features that use current data

Live status, usage limits and recommendations in your product read from events processed moments ago, not from last night's batch job.

  • Alerts that reach the right person

Rules watch the stream and notify the person who owns the problem, with the events behind the alert attached, so they can act instead of investigating first.

  • Streams that hold up in production

Schemas are checked on the way in, late and duplicate events are handled on purpose, and a stalled stream is noticed and recovered rather than discovered days later.

Event stream

Watch a stream raise an alert and trigger an action

Pick a scenario. The events run in order, an alert fires when a rule matches, and you see the action that follows, from the first event to the logged outcome.

Pick a scenario

A payment pattern that needs a second look

  1. 09:14:02 Event Card payment received and validated against the payment event schema
  2. 09:14:03 Event The same card is used again from a different country inside the time window
  3. 09:14:03 Alert Rule matched: an unusual pattern on one card within the window
  4. 09:14:04 Action Payment held and the case sent to the review queue with the events behind it
  5. 09:21:40 Action An analyst approves the payment, the hold is released and the decision is logged

A product feature that depends on fresh usage data

  1. 14:02:10 Event Usage events arrive from the app while customers work in the feature
  2. 14:02:11 Event Events grouped into short event-time windows for each customer account
  3. 14:05:00 Alert An account crosses the usage limit agreed in its plan
  4. 14:05:01 Action An in-app notice goes to the account admin and the plan page updates
  5. 14:05:02 Event The customer success dashboard refreshes with the account's new usage

A source stops sending and the stream stalls

  1. 02:30:00 Event Order events flowing from the warehouse system as expected
  2. 02:41:00 Alert No events from the warehouse source for longer than the agreed limit
  3. 02:41:01 Action The owner of the warehouse feed is paged with the last event received
  4. 02:58:30 Event The source reconnects and events replay from the last committed position
  5. 02:58:45 Action The freshness check passes and the alert closes with a note in the log

02 How it starts

How it starts

  1. Name the decision

We ask which decision or feature needs fresh data and how fresh is fresh enough. If an hourly load would do the job, we say so and build that instead.

  2. Agree the events

We write the event schemas and contracts with the teams that send them, and decide how late, duplicate and malformed events are handled before anything is built.

  3. Run a bounded pilot

One source, one stream and one alert or feature, run against representative events, with success criteria agreed before the pilot starts.

  4. Go, change or stop

You review latency, reliability and running cost from the pilot, then decide whether to extend it to more sources, change the design or stop.

The usual engagement model: Proof of concept or pilot

03 Start

Name the decision that is waiting on data

Book a call with an engineer. We will ask how fresh your data needs to be and say whether streaming is worth it for you.

What happens next

  1. You pick a time, or send us a message.
  2. A person at Nexstella reads what you shared before we talk.
  3. You leave with a clear next step, even when that step is to wait.

Or write to [email protected]. Send a brief instead
