FAQ

Questions, answered plainly

The questions founders and business leaders ask first, grouped by topic. If yours is not here, a person will reply within one business day.

In short

Nexstella is your technology partner. We help you work out what to build, make the right technology decisions, and turn your ideas into working solutions. You do not need to be technical to start, and the first conversation is free and carries no obligation.

01 Questions

How do we get started?

No. Tell us what you are trying to achieve and we will help you understand the options, plan the right approach, and build it with you.

With a conversation about the business problem. From there it may become a discovery workshop, a technical assessment, a proof of concept, or a defined implementation.

Yes. The first conversation is free and carries no obligation. It is about your challenge, not about selling a predefined service, and you should leave it with more clarity even when the next step is not development.

A person replies within one business day. In the first conversation we ask about your goals, your constraints and what already exists, and then suggest a sensible next step, which may be a discovery workshop, a feasibility assessment or a technical roadmap.

Nexstella is an engineering-led technology partner. We help founders and businesses make the right technology decisions, then build the software, data platforms, AI applications and cloud systems behind them, and keep improving them as the business grows.

No. We can join at any stage: shaping an idea, finishing or fixing a first version, scaling a growing product, or modernizing an established system. We start from where you are.

02 Questions

What is it like to work with Nexstella?

Yes. We can provide architectural advice, a specialist AI or data team, fractional CTO support where explicitly agreed, or extra engineering capacity alongside your team.

You do. You remain responsible for the vision and the commercial decisions. We contribute technology leadership, engineering judgment and implementation, and we aim for a collaborative relationship rather than a controlling one.

Not blindly. We ask questions, challenge assumptions respectfully, and tell you when a simpler approach, a later start or a different design would serve you better. Then the decision is yours.

You receive clear communication, visible progress and timely explanations of important decisions or changes. Engagements set out scope, milestones, risks and a status reporting path, so you always know where things stand.

Yes. We start by reviewing the code, architecture, infrastructure and documentation, then agree with you what to stabilize, improve or rebuild before taking on new work.

Fractional CTO support is available where explicitly agreed. More broadly, we bring a CTO mindset to every engagement: understanding the business, weighing consequences and giving honest technical judgment.

03 Questions

How do you approach AI and data?

No. We assess whether AI is appropriate, and we will tell you when conventional software or automation is the more reliable choice.

We test it against representative use cases and failure scenarios, and we agree what counts as acceptable before it goes live. Testing continues after launch, because models, data and business needs change.

Consequential or irreversible actions need human approval. Agents work within defined responsibilities and permitted tools, and their autonomy grows only when testing, business needs and risk assessment justify it.

We start by asking which data sources exist, who authorizes access, and what quality and privacy constraints apply. Sometimes the right first step is making the data usable, and we will say so.

04 Questions

What does it cost, and what do we commit to?

It depends on the problem, so we scope and quote each engagement after a first conversation. The structure follows how much is uncertain, who owns delivery, and what resources you have, and we explain the plan and its assumptions before you decide.

Yes. A relationship can begin with a single conversation, a discovery workshop, a technical assessment or a time-boxed proof of concept. Sometimes the most valuable first step is deciding what not to build yet.

Not by default. Engagements are structured to fit the problem, from a focused assessment to a defined project to ongoing support. A proof of concept ends with a decision to proceed, revise or stop.

Scope, deliverables, milestones and dependencies are agreed at the start, and changes go through an agreed change-control procedure. Risks and assumptions are kept in registers.

05 Questions

What happens once the system is live?

Where the engagement includes it, we monitor, maintain and improve the system and help plan the next stage. We document decisions so you are never dependent on us.

No. We document systems, explain decisions and support knowledge transfer, so that you or your own team can operate and evolve the technology. Our goal is to strengthen your ability to run it.

Where the engagement calls for it, yes. Ongoing support can cover monitoring, maintenance, improvements and incident investigation, under scope, availability and escalation arrangements agreed before it starts.

Yes. You can return with new ideas, changing requirements or technical challenges without starting from zero, because we keep the context of earlier decisions and why systems were built the way they were.

06 Questions

How do you handle security and sensitive data?

We do not claim any certification. Where relevant, we align our design and implementation with frameworks such as ISO/IEC 27001, ISO/IEC 42001, the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, the NIST AI Risk Management Framework and SOC 2 control criteria. Alignment does not, by itself, constitute certification.

With controls such as least-privilege access, encryption in transit and at rest, managed secrets, and audit logging with security monitoring. The right controls depend on the data and the environment, and we agree them with you.

The application verifies who the user is and what they may access, and retrieval searches only information that user is authorized to see. We also test for unauthorized disclosure and prompt injection before a system goes live.

07 Ask us

What if your question is not here?

Ask it in a conversation. You do not need to know all the answers before you approach us, only a vision and a willingness to explore what is possible. A person replies within one business day, and the first conversation is free and carries no obligation.

08 In practice

What does this usually look like?

A founder is comparing technology partners and wants to know, before booking anything, whether the first conversation costs anything and whether they need to be technical.

The answers are grouped by what people ask first: getting started, working together, cost and commitment, AI and data, security and sensitive data, and what happens after launch. Anything not covered can go straight to a person.

What happens next

  1. You pick a time, or send us a message.
  2. A person at Nexstella reads what you shared before we talk.
  3. You leave with a clear next step, even when that step is to wait.
