Scale and operate

A secure, repeatable cloud environment to build on

We set up the accounts, networks, environments and controls that applications, data and AI workloads run on, so infrastructure is repeatable rather than improvised.

In short

A cloud foundation is the controlled base that applications, data and AI workloads run on. It covers a landing zone, private networking, separate environments, infrastructure as code, identity and secrets management, monitoring, and backup and recovery. The aim is an environment that is easier to control and behaves the same way each time.

01 The problem

What problem does this solve?

Infrastructure can grow one request at a time. Accounts, networks and permissions get set up by hand, and nobody can say exactly what is running or who can reach it.

Without clear separation between development, testing and production, a change meant for one can affect another. Deployment, security, monitoring and cost controls then have to be added while the business already depends on the system.

02 What we build

What do we build?

  • A cloud architecture assessment of your current workloads
  • A landing zone with account structure and workload boundaries
  • Private networking and controlled ingress
  • Separate development, testing, staging and production environments
  • Infrastructure as code with peer-reviewed changes
  • Identity federation, least-privilege access and secrets management
  • Monitoring, audit trails, backup and restoration

03 Architecture

What does a typical architecture look like?

Typical architecture of a cloud foundation The flow runs from top to bottom. Landing zone: Accounts and boundaries, Identity federation. Network: Private networking, Controlled ingress. Environments: Dev, test, staging, production, Infrastructure as Code. Workloads: Containers, managed services. Operations: Monitoring and audit trails, Backup and restoration. Secrets, keys and least privilege throughout. LANDING ZONE Accounts and boundaries Identity federation NETWORK Private networking Controlled ingress ENVIRONMENTS Dev, test, staging, production Infrastructure as Code WORKLOADS Containers, managed services OPERATIONS Monitoring and audit trails Backup and restoration Secrets, keys and least privilege throughout
A landing zone sets the boundaries, networking and environments are defined as code, and workloads run with monitoring and recovery in place.

04 How it goes

How does the work usually go?

  1. Assess the current environment

We review the workloads, accounts, networks and access that exist today, and what the business needs from its infrastructure.

  2. Design environments and network

We design the landing zone, the separation between environments, the network and the identity model, balancing managed-service benefits against portability and simplicity.

  3. Build it as code

We provision the foundation through infrastructure as code, with peer-reviewed changes, so it can be repeated and audited.

  4. Add delivery and security controls

We add deployment pipelines, secrets and key management, monitoring with audit trails, and backups that can be restored.

  5. Hand over and keep improving

We document the foundation and transfer knowledge to your team. Cost and performance reviews can follow as the workloads grow.

05 Capabilities and stack

Which capabilities and technologies are involved?

  • Amazon Web Services
  • Microsoft Azure
  • Google Cloud
  • Terraform
  • OpenTofu
  • Terragrunt
  • Kubernetes
  • Docker
  • Ansible

The final stack follows your requirements and what you already run. How we choose technology

06 A typical situation

What does this usually look like?

A growing SaaS business has built its infrastructure by hand over time, and deployments, access and monitoring depend on the knowledge of a few people.

We assess what exists, define separate environments and networking as code, and introduce deployment, identity and monitoring controls in stages.

07 Questions

Questions people ask

Yes. BuiltForProd by Nexstella, our production engineering brand, offers a production-ready cloud foundation for AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud, built in OpenTofu and Terragrunt and deployed into your own accounts with the code handed over. We can start from it or design a foundation around your constraints. Details are at builtforprod.com.

That depends on your workloads, existing investments, security needs and costs. We work on AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud, and we weigh managed-service benefits against portability and operational simplicity.

It can be implemented in a single cloud, across several, or in a hybrid setup when your requirements justify it. A single cloud is simpler when it meets the need.

Controls such as least-privilege access, private networking, encryption, secrets management and audit logging are part of it, scaled to data sensitivity and system exposure. We design them with your obligations in mind.
